The Windom Eagle softball team settled for a doubleheader split Thursday, winning the opener against Luverne 6-2 before dropping the nightcap 7-5.
In the opener, the Eagles trailed early, but strung together two big offensive innings to claim the win.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Addison Evans and Sadie Tjentland hit RBI singles and Gracie Buckentin drew a bases-loaded walk.
In the fourth, Anja Nielsen hit an RBI single and Evans ripped an RBI double for a 5-1 lead.
Windom’s final run scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Evans had three hits in the win. Nielsen, Sadie Tjentland and Ember Struck had two hits each.
Nielsen picked up the pitching win, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out 16.
In the nightcap, the Eagles held the lead, but Luverne scored five unearned runs in a six-run sixth inning to rally for the win.
Windom jumped to an early lead, scoring in the top of the first on a Brita Tjentland groundout. Then, in the third, Struck ripped an RBI triple and Brita Tjentland added an RBI single for a 3-0 lead. Struck added an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
Luverne scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, then took the lead with a six-run sixth. The Cardinals had an RBI double, then scored a run on an error with two outs. Luverne then got an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4 and took the lead with a three-run home run.
The Eagles got their final run in the seventh on an Evans RBI single.
Struck led the Eagles with two hits in the loss.
Nielsen took the pitching loss, allowing eight hits and striking out 12.

Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey used a big third inning to take control Thursday, claiming a 10-3 victory over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a game played at Plum Creek Park near Walnut Grove.
The Wolverines broke a 1-1 tie with a seven-run third inning that included four run-scoring hits.
MLAC took the lead in the top of the first on an Ashlyn Pfeiffer RBI single. RRC/WWG answered on a throwing error in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 1-1.
In the third, the Wolverines took the lead when Julia Brinkman scored on a fielder’s choice. Kelby Janzen followed with a two-run single. Kathryn Wassman and Adleigh Olson added RBI singles and Brinkman plated a run with a squeeze bunt single, with another run scoring on an error.
RRC/WWG cut the deficit to 8-2 in the fifth on a Leah Carter RBI single, but the Wolverines padded the lead in the sixth, as Pfeiffer and Janzen hit RBI singles.
The game’s final run scored on a Natasha Wahl RBI single for the Falcons in the sixth.
Brinkman and Pfeiffer each had three hits for the Wolverines. Kylie Phommachan, Janzen and Wassman had two hits each.
Wahl led RRC/WWG with three hits. Carter and DeAnn Roiger had two hits each.
Pfeiffer claimed the pitching win, allowing nine hits and a walk while striking out four.
Carlie Ross took the loss, allowing 15 hits, walking three and striking out three.
