A Revere man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly firing a shotgun during a confrontation at a rural Cottonwood County home, according to the complaint.
Colin Michael Evans, 42, has been charged with second-degree assault with a firearm in Cottonwood County District Court.
The charge stems from an incident reported to have occurred March 27, according to the complaint.
According to the complaint, a woman told authorities she no longer felt safe after an encounter involving Evans and a shotgun at the home where the two had been living with their child. The woman told law enforcement she had returned home from work to care for a horse when she saw Evans’ shotguns leaning against a vehicle.
According to the complaint, the woman asked Evans not to shoot while she was tending to the horse because gunfire could startle it. Evans then began yelling at her and walked toward her with a shotgun across his chest.
The complaint said Evans fired multiple rounds into a tree grove and then, after getting closer to the woman, fired additional shots above them and above the horse pen.
When questioned by law enforcement, Evans said he had been shooting birds in his yard and denied handling the gun irresponsibly, according to the complaint. He told authorities the two were arguing when he saw a blackbird fly by and shot at it, according to the complaint.
The alleged conduct involved Evans approaching the woman with the shotgun during an argument and firing several shots while she was nearby.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and/or a $14,000 fine. The complaint also states the offense carries a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in prison if convicted.
