The Windom Eagle softball team slugged six extra-base hits Tuesday, powering its way to an 11-4 victory at Springfield.
The Eagles had four doubles and two home runs in the game. Meanwhile, the Eagle defense kept Springfield largely at bay.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the second inning. Anja Nielsen blasted a home run to left-center field, followed immediately by Addison Evans smashing a home run to right-center field for her first career home run. Alivia Letcher later added a two-run single for a 4-0 Eagle lead.
Windom padded the lead in the third as Nielsen ripped an RBI double and Leah Smith plated a run with a groundout. Nielsen added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
In the sixth, Ember Struck lined a two-run double and Brita Tjentland added an RBI double, giving the Eagles a 10-2 lead. Then, in the seventh, Gracie Buckentin hit an RBI single for the final run of the game.
Buckentin had three hits in the victory, as six Eagles had multiple hits in the game.
Smith worked the first six innings inside the pitching circle for the win. She allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out two.

A furious rally in the top of the seventh inning came up just short for Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tuesday, as the Falcons fell 13-11 to Murray County Central in Slayton.
RRC/WWG trailed 13-7 going into the final inning, but plated four runs and had the potential tying run at the plate when the final out was recorded.
RRC/WWG took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run DeAnn Roiger double.
Trailing 5-2 in the third, the Falcons tied the game. Kennedy Carter and Sydney Foster hit RBI singles and Leah VanDeWiele plated a run with a groundout.
The Falcons briefly took the lead in the top of the fourth, as Roiger plated a run with a groundout. But MCC rallied, scoring six times in the bottom of the inning to take an 11-6 lead.
RRC/WWG cut the deficit to 11-7 in the top of the sixth on a Leah Carter RBI groundout, but the Rebels stretched the lead to 13-7 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the seventh, the Falcons tried to mount a comeback. VanDeWiele blasted a three-run home run and Leah Carter ripped an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 13-11. But with the potential tying run at the plate, a foul fly-out ended the threat and the game.
Roiger, Carlie Ross and VanDeWiele had two hits each in the loss.
Ross took the pitching loss, allowing 12 hits and three walks while striking out two.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s surged in the closing innings Tuesday to claim a 15-6 victory over Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey at Sleepy Eye.
The Knights broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run fourth inning, then put the game away with a five-run sixth.
MLAC held an early lead, scoring in the first on a Phithsada Phoumivong RBI single.
In the second, the Wolverines took a 3-1 lead on an error and a Julia Brinkman RBI single. But the Knights tied the game in the bottom of the second, then plated five runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 10-3 lead.
The Wolverines were able to cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth. Kelby Janzen hit an RBI double and Adleigh Olson hit a two-run single, making the score 10-6. But the Knights added five insurance runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
Brinkman, Olson and Nadia Phommachan had two hits each in the loss.
Ashlyn Pfeiffer allowed 13 hits and five walks without a strikeout to take the pitching loss.
