The Windom Eagle softball team picked up its first two wins of the season Saturday, defeating Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 22-6 and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 9-3 in a triangular played at Janesville.
The opener against ACGE shaped up like a potential slugfest early, as the teams combined for 13 runs in the first inning. But it was all Eagles after that, as Windom scored 15 unanswered runs for the 22-6 win.
In the top of the first, Brita Tjentland started the scoring with an RBI double. Addison Evans hit an RBI single, a run scored on an error, Sadie Tjentland hit a two-run single, Brooklyn Prokosch plated a run with a groundout and Alivia Letcher hit an RBI single.
ACGE answered with six runs in the bottom of the first, but the Eagles padded the lead in the second. A run scored on a wild pitch, Sadie Tjentland hit an RBI single and Prokosch hit an RBI double.
The Eagles blew the game open with an eight-run third. Brita Tjentland and Evans hit RBI singles, Leah Smith hit a two-run triple, Prokosch hit an RBI single and Ember Struck hit a three-run inside-the-park home run for an 18-6 lead.
Windom’s final runs scored in the fifth. Struck hit an RBI double, Anja Nielsen hit a two-run double and Gracie Buckentin plated a run with a groundout.
Letcher, Struck, Brita Tjentland and Evans had three hits each in the win.
Smith settled in after a rough first inning to earn the pitching win, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out five.
In the nightcap against JWP, the Eagles jumped to an early lead and never looked back for a 9-3 win.
The Eagles scored in the bottom of the first on a two-run Nielsen single. Windom added a run on a wild pitch in the third.
Smith hit an RBI double in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. After JWP cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth, the Eagles answered. Brita Tjentland and Gracie Buckentin hit RBI singles for a 6-3 lead.
Then, in the sixth, Brita Tjentland hit a two-run single and Nielsen plated a run with a sacrifice fly.
Letcher and Brita Tjentland each had three hits in the win.
Nielsen picked up the pitching win, allowing seven hits and three walks while fanning eight.

The Windom Eagle softball team opened its season with a tough test Friday, falling 3-2 to a strong Martin County West squad at the Windom Recreation Area.
The Eagles held an early lead, then rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning before MCW scored in the top of the seventh to claim the win.
The Eagles struck first in the second inning. Anja Nielsen led off with a double and scored on a pair of wild pitches for a 1-0 lead.
MCW answered in the top of the third, then took the lead in the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles had runners on second and third with no outs, but had a runner thrown out at the plate on a fielder’s choice grounder. But the Eagles tied the game moments later when Nielsen scored on the back end of a double steal. But with the go-ahead run at third, a strikeout and a groundout ended the threat.
MCW regained the lead in the seventh on a two-out RBI double. The Eagles were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
Nielsen took the pitching loss, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out five.

Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey fell behind early and never recovered Friday, dropping an 11-1 decision to Sleepy Eye at Mt. Lake.
Sleepy Eye capitalized on 11 hits and five Wolverine errors in the game, scoring six runs in the first inning and three in the third.
MLAC plated its only run in the fourth on an Ashlyn Pfeiffer RBI double.
Pfeiffer also took the pitching loss, allowing 11 hits and four walks while fanning four.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove had a rough outing Friday, dropping a 20-0 decision to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in Tracy.
The Falcons were held without a hit in the game. Meanwhile, the Panthers drew 11 walks and capitalized on nine Falcon errors to score 16 unearned runs.
Natasha Wahl took the pitching loss, allowing two hits and nine walks in two innings. She struck out two.
