Bid approved for street project

Work on street improvements will begin later this spring, following approval of the bid at last week’s Windom City Council meeting.

The council approved the low bid from Svobota Excavating Inc. for the project, with a main bid of $2,298,994 and an alternate option for an additional $7,908.

The project involves construction on two streets — First Avenue from Highway 60 to Sixth Street, and 17th Street between Fourth Street and Sixth Street.

The bid is about a million dollars under the original estimate of $3.4 million made by city engineers, DGR Engineering.

More from the city council meeting appears in the March 25 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
