The Windom Eagles fought back from nearly every push Friday night, but Fairmont used a rally in the closing minutes to take the lead for good, claiming a 68-65 win over the Eagles in the Section 3AA playoffs at Fairmont.
Fairmont raced out to a 9-0 lead to start the game, but the Eagles battled back, taking their biggest lead of the game at 25-19. Fairmont regained control late in the first half, leading by two at the break.
The Eagles started the second half with a 14-7 burst to take a five-point lead at 45-40, but Fairmont answered with a three-pointer and a pair of inside buckets for a 9-2 run to regain the lead.
After the Eagles had tied the game at 51-51 on a Jackson Joyce three-pointer, Fairmont hit back-to-back buckets, taking a four-point cushion. The Eagles were able to trim the deficit to two on three separate occasions in the final two minutes, but a pair of inside buckets for the Cardinals extended the lead to seven.
The Eagles were able to cut the deficit to three twice in the final minute, but Fairmont hit four straight free throws, stretching the lead to five before an Eagle basket at the buzzer made the final deficit three points.
Elliot Serreyn led the Eagles with 23 points. Jackson Joyce finished with 18 points in the loss.

HBC 39-29 = 58
A swarming defensive effort by Hills-Beaver Creek kept Red Rock Central under wraps Saturday, as the top-seeded Patriots rolled to a 58-29 win on Section 3A Super Saturday in Worthington.
HBC held the Falcons to 11 field goals and 24% shooting for the game. Meanwhile, HBC shot a shade under 50% and outscored RRC 40-10 in the paint.
The dominant inside game allowed HBC to build a 22-point halftime lead. The Patriots then held RRC to 12 second-half points.
Henry Stavnes led the Falcons with 15 points. Jordan Therkilsen and Jake Erickson each scored six points in the loss.

USC 29-44-16 = 89
Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey shrugged off double-digit deficits in both the first half and early in the second half, but an early deficit in overtime proved too much to overcome in an 89-86 loss to United South Central in the Section 2A playoffs Friday in Wells.
The Wolverines dug an early hole, but battled to within a point by halftime. Then, in the second half, USC was able to open up a 12-point lead before the Wolverines answered.
Maxton Fast, playing for the first time in nearly two weeks due to an ankle injury, scored 15 points in the second half. Aidan Olson added 15 points of his own.
Olson’s three-pointer with under 10 seconds to play tied the game at 73-73 to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Rebels hit a three-pointer early and built an 86-77 lead. The Wolverines were able to cut the deficit, but USC went 3-of-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds, taking a three-point lead.
The Wolverines had a final look at the basket, but a potential game-tying three-pointer didn’t fall.
Olson led the Wolverines with 25 points in the loss. Fast scored 22, Nolan Peters finished with 11 and Caleb Fast scored 10 in the loss.
