The decision to sell Windomnet inched closer to reality at last week’s Windom City Council meeting.
On a 3-2 vote, the council approved the first reading of the proposed sale of the utility to Federated Broadband, based in Jackson.
The final reading will be held at next Tuesday’s council meeting. If that vote passes, a final vote on the proposed sale would be held.
The vote approving the first reading came against the recommendation of the telecommunication commission board.
Telecom board chair Dirk Abraham said the board recommended 4-0 to not move forward with the sale, adding, “We believe that the Windomnet system should continue to be owned and operated by the city of Windom.”
