The Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising motorists to the east and north of the Windom area to stay put.
According to MnDOT, no travel is being advised in Watonwan, Brown, Blue Earth and Nicollet counties to the east.
All state highways in those counties have no travel advisories and no travel is advised on county roads due to heavy snowfall and strong winds creating poor visibility.
So far, roads in most of Cottonwood County remain in fair to good winter driving condition. There has been no accumulating snowfall in the immediate Windom area as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. However, snow is falling and accumulating in Mt. Lake, Butterfield and Comfrey, as well as areas around Sanborn and Lamberton.
Additionally, no travel is being advised for much of Redwood, Lyon, Renville and McLeod counties to the north.
Most of the area is currently in a winter weather advisory, with some counties in a blizzard warning until later this evening.
