The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will hold a pair of hearings today to take input on a proposed ordinance regulating what firearms may be used to hunt deer within the county.
The hearings will be held at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center basement conference room in Windom.
The State Legislature approved the use of rifles for firearms deer hunting, however left it up to each county whether or not to allow only shotguns to be used.
The wording of the proposed ordinance would limit firearms deer hunting to shotguns within the county. If the ordinance is not approved by the county board, it means rifles would be allowed for hunting deer in the county.
The hearings are solely to receive input from the public on the proposed ordinance. No decision will be made by the county board today.
