Firearms deer hunting season in Minnesota is set to see significant change in the fall of 2026.
Last year, the Minnesota State Legislature gave approval to allow high-powered rifles to be used statewide during firearm deer season.
However, the law left the door open for individual counties to limit deer hunting to shotguns, as it has been in the past.
The debate on whether to limit legal firearms for deer hunting will take center stage in Cottonwood County on Feb. 11.
Cottonwood County Commissioners will hold a pair of public hearings, seeking feedback from the public. Those hearings will be held at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the basement conference room at the Law Enforcement Center in Windom.
