A sluggish offensive start doomed the Windom boys basketball team Tuesday night, as the Eagles dropped a 59-45 decision to Fairmont at Windom.
The Cardinals came out of the gates firing, racing to a 21-point halftime lead behind a 47% shooting performance. The Cardinals added nine three-pointers in the game.
The Eagles were effective in slowing down the Fairmont interior game, outscoring the Cardinals 22-20 in the paint. But Windom was held to 33% shooting for the game and couldn’t overcome the slow start, despite closing the gap to eight points late in the contest.
Elliot Serreyn led the Eagles with 12 points. Henry Visker added 10 points in the loss.
Canby 29-42 = 71
RRC 34-30 = 64
A memorable night saw a milestone set for the Red Rock Central boys basketball team Tuesday, but the Falcons saw a lead slip away in a 71-64 loss to Canby.
The game, originally slated to be played in Lamberton, was moved to Tyler due to a malfunctioning basket bracket in the RRC gym.
RRC sophomore Henry Stavnes continued his torrid scoring this season, surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career with a baseline jumper in the first half. His 20 first-half points sparked the Falcons to a five-point lead.
But Canby battled back in the second half, with the big difference coming from the free throw line. Canby went 20-of-26 for the game and scored their final six points from the stripe. Meanwhile, RRC was 14-of-25 from the line for the game, missing eight free throws in the second half.
Stavnes finished with 36 points to lead the Falcons. Finn Batalden added 15 points in the loss.
Nicollet 40-43 = 83
MLAC 29-27 = 56
Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t keep up with a torrid offensive pace set by Nicollet Tuesday night, as the Raiders surged to an 83-56 victory at Comfrey.
The Raiders hit four of their five three-pointers in the first half and battered the Wolverines in the lane, jumping out to an 11-point halftime lead.
In the second half, Nicollet continued to use its size in the lane to wear down the Wolverines, pulling away for the victory.
Aidan Olson led the Wolverines with 18 points. Micah Fast added 13 points in the loss.
