The Windom Area boys hockey team gave up a pair of shorthanded goals Thursday night, leading to a 4-2 loss at Fairmont.
The Cardinals jumped to an early lead with a power play goal in the opening period, then added a shorthanded goal for a 2-0 lead. The Eagles cut the deficit in half late in the opening period on a goal from Daniel Staples.
The Cardinals regained a two-goal lead halfway through the second period with their second shorthanded goal of the game.
Fairmont took a 4-1 lead with 3:03 left on the clock before Staples scored the final goal of the game for the Eagles.
Fairmont outshot the Eagles 31-27 in the game. Goalie Kole Espenson finished with 27 saves.
