A Windom woman is facing felony drug charges after methamphetamine and prescription pills were allegedly found in her apartment during a probation check.
According to the police complaint, Mary Kathleen Coleman, 44, is being charged with third-degree possession of methamphetamine/amphetamine in a school/park/public zone and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance following an incident on Jan. 7.
The complaint said a Windom police officer assisted a Minnesota Department of Corrections probation agent at an apartment located across the street from Windom Area High School.
According to the complaint, Coleman allowed authorities into her apartment after initially not answering the door. A Windom police officer remained nearby while the probation agent conducted a search of the residence, which was permitted under the terms of Coleman’s probation.
The complaint said the probation agent located a small baggie containing a white crystalline substance under a couch. The substance later field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 3 grams. Coleman allegedly admitted to having a meth pipe and two butane lighters were also found.
According to the complaint, Coleman claimed the methamphetamine belonged to another individual who had been visiting her apartment. She also consented to a search of her purse, where a Windom police officer found a pill bottle bearing another person’s name that contained three pills later identified as Vyvanse, a Schedule II controlled substance.
Coleman is charged with third-degree possession of methamphetamine in a school zone, a felony offense punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. She is also charged with fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, also a felony, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
