The Windom Area boys hockey team showed an efficient offensive effort Wednesday, wrapping up the Windom Area Holiday Tournament with a 7-3 victory over Worthington at the Windom Arena.
The Trojans outshot the Eagles 33-31 for the game, but the Eagles were able to consistently find the holes in the Worthington defense for goals.
Worthington jumped to an early 1-0 lead, but the Eagles tied the game late in the opening period on a power play goal from Wyatt Soderholm.
The game stayed tied until the closing minutes of the second. Andrei Rivera rifled a quick shot over the shoulder of the Trojan goalie, giving the Eagles the lead with 3:04 left in the period. Then, with just over a minute to go in the period, Cormac Raderstorf won a scramble for the puck in front of the net, firing a shot through a crowd into the net for a 3-1 lead.
The Eagles stretched the lead to 4-1 early in the third on a goal from Mason Buckentin.
After Worthington cut the deficit to 4-2, the Eagles scored 17 seconds later, as Raderstorf netted his second of the game.
Jessy Gentry added a goal for a 6-2 lead. Then, leading 6-3 late in the game, Daniel Staples scored into an empty net to seal the win.
Kole Espenson finished with 30 saves in the victory.
