A Windom woman has been charged with a felony after police say she hid her boyfriend, who had active warrants, during a search of her apartment, according to the complaint.
Shannon Lea Goembel, 50, of Windom, is being charged with aiding an offender, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
According to the complaint, the charge stems from a Nov. 3 incident in which a Windom police officer was patrolling near the Riverview Apartments around 9:37 p.m. and saw Goembel’s vehicle parked with two people inside.
The officer recognized the vehicle as belonging to Goembel and knew her boyfriend, Jeffrey John Tosch, had multiple active warrants, including one from the Minnesota Department of Corrections, according to the complaint.
The officer approached the vehicle and identified Goembel as the driver. Goembel allegedly told the officer she was not aware Tosch had warrants and said she had not seen him in some time. The officer warned her that she could face charges if she was hiding him, according to the complaint.
Goembel agreed to let police search her apartment for Tosch. While walking inside, she told the officer it had been “a couple weeks” since Tosch had been there, according to the complaint.
During the search, the officer found Tosch hiding under a bed in the apartment.
