A South Dakota woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly fleeing law enforcement at speeds reaching 100 mph in Cottonwood County, according to the complaint.
Chasity Rose Ferro Peneaux, 27, of Pierre, South Dakota is charged with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of three years and one day in prison and a $5,000 fine.
According to a police complaint, the incident began around 11:25 p.m. on Oct. 28 when dispatch received a report of a theft at the Circle K gas station in Windom and relayed a suspect vehicle description to law enforcement, according to the complaint.
A short time later, a Mt. Lake police officer spotted a vehicle matching that description traveling east on Highway 60 near County Road 27 and confirmed its license plate matched the one provided in the theft report, according to the complaint.
The complaint said the officer activated his emergency lights, but the vehicle did not stop. He then activated his spotlight and siren as the vehicle accelerated away, reaching about 100 mph.
The pursuit was terminated in Watonwan County due to road conditions, but law enforcement later stopped the vehicle in Blue Earth County and identified the driver as Peneaux, according to the complaint.
