The Windom Eagle girls basketball team opened Big South Conference divisional play in impressive fashion Tuesday night, powering its way to a 73-54 win over Blue Earth Area in Blue Earth.
The Eagles cranked up the defensive pressure early in the game, turning turnovers into buckets to take a 13-3 lead in the opening minutes. The Eagles also pounded the offensive glass throughout the game, finishing with several second-chance scoring opportunities.
Windom was able to open a 17-point halftime lead. BEA was able to cut the deficit under 10 early in the second half before the Eagles regained their offensive footing, pulling away over the final minutes for a 19-point victory.
Alivia Letcher came off the bench to lead the Eagles with 21 points. Haidyn Sammons added 16 points, Anja Nielsen scored 11 and Sadie Tjentland added 10 in the win.

AE 27-37 = 64
Adrian-Ellsworth attacked the lane Tuesday night, pulling away in the second half for a 64-41 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey in the Wolverines’ season-opener at Adrian.
The Dragon defense held the Wolverines in check early, building a nine-point halftime cushion. MLAC tried to battle back in the second half, turning up the defensive pressure, but AE was able to work the ball inside against the shorter Wolverines. The Dragons outscored MLAC 37-23 in the second half to seal the win.
Julia Brinkman led the Wolverines with 13 points in the loss. Ellamae Peters added 11 points.
RRC 14-05 = 19
MCC 39-32 = 71
Red Rock Central struggled on offense Tuesday night, as Murray County Central cruised to a 71-19 victory over the Falcons at Slayton.
MCC was able to pull out to a 25-point halftime lead before RRC’s offense went into the deep freeze in the second half, with just two made field goals and five total points.
Brailynn Olson and Ally Linder each scored four points in the loss for the Falcons.
