The Windom Eagle football team came up big on fourth down Friday night, scoring three fourth-down touchdowns on its way to a 28-20 victory over Sibley East at Arlington.
Quarterback Jackson Joyce hit receiver Henry Visker for a trio of fourth-down touchdowns, sparking the Eagles to the win.
Meanwhile, the Eagle defense stiffened in the second half to preserve the victory.
Sibley East opened with the ball, but Joyce intercepted a pass to halt the Wolverines’ drive. Windom then went 73 yards in 10 plays, capped when Joyce found Visker in the left flat for a 3-yard touchdown. Rodrigo Hernandez’s extra point kick gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
Sibley East answered, marching 64 yards in 13 plays, capped with a 3-yard touchdown by Will Feterl, cutting the Eagle lead to 7-6.
The Wolverines intercepted a pass on the next Eagle offensive play, setting up a 29-yard touchdown run by Riley Bussler for a 12-7 Wolverine lead.
But Windom responded, marching quickly into Wolverine territory. On fourth down from the Sibley East 35, Joyce found Visker down the sideline for a 35-yard touchdown and a 14-12 lead.
Windom started the second half with a drive into Wolverine territory, but was stopped on fourth down. Moments later, the Eagles ripped the ball from the Wolverine ball carrier, with Lane Caldwell recovering.
Six plays later, Stevie Meyer cashed in with an 8-yard touchdown run for a 21-12 lead.
The Eagles then forced a quick three-and-out and raced 73 yards in seven plays, capped with a juggling 45-yard touchdown reception by Visker on fourth down. The extra point kick gave the Eagles a 28-12 lead.
Sibley East answered with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines then forced an Eagle fumble as Windom was driving for a potential game-sealing touchdown, but the Eagle defense stopped Sibley East short on fourth down from its own 30, allowing Windom to run out the clock.
Joyce completed 12-of-18 passes for 169 yards in the win, with Visker catching five passes for 98 yards.
Meyer finished with 31 carries for 194 yards in the win.

Red Rock Central’s offense was nearly unstoppable Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons cruised to a 76-22 victory over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at Hector.
The Falcons scored touchdowns on 11 of their 13 offensive possessions in the game and piled up 555 yards of total offense.
The Falcons got off to a fast start, as Abe Stavnes scored on a 3-yard touchdown run on the game’s first drive. Carter Therkilsen added a 51-yard touchdown, followed by a 5-yard Stavnes touchdown run. Therkilsen added a 19-yard touchdown and Stavnes capped the opening quarter with a 5-yard touchdown for a 32-8 Falcon lead.
Therkilsen added a 39-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Stavnes completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Therkilsen, giving the Falcons a 48-8 halftime advantage.
Carter Therkilsen added a 56-yard touchdown run and Jordan Therkilsen had a 3-yard touchdown catch from Stavnes in the third quarter. In the fourth, Jackson Radmaker added a 2-yard touchdown and Grant Binnebose had a 71-yard touchdown run.
Carter Therkilsen finished with 274 yards rushing on 15 carries. Stavnes completed 10-of-19 passes for 80 yards. Jordan Therkilsen had four catches for 45 yards.

New Ulm Cathedral’s defense held Mt. Lake Area under wraps Saturday afternoon, as the Greyhounds rolled to a 45-6 victory at Johnson Field in New Ulm.
Cathedral rumbled for 337 yards and six touchdowns on the ground in the game, scoring 38 points in the first half.
Meanwhile, the Greyhound defense held the Wolverines to a total of 115 yards of offense in the game.
The lone Wolverine touchdown in the game came in the second quarter, when Tryton Khounsanthone found Carson Wall down the right sideline for a 60-yard touchdown strike.
Khounsanthone completed 4-of-18 passes for 63 yards in the loss. Wall had two catches for 66 yards. Jordan Khamkhaykeo rushed six times for 28 yards.
