It was a tale of two halves for the Windom Eagles’ homecoming game Friday night.
Windom dominated the first half, leading 15-0 at halftime and 22-8 early in the third quarter. But Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial dominated the final 24 minutes of play, scoring 26 unanswered points to claim a 34-22 victory over the Eagles at Island Park.
Windom got on the board on its first drive of the game, marching 60 yards in nine plays. Homecoming king Stevie Meyer capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run for a 6-0 lead.
The Eagle defense came up big on LCWM’s next drive, as three straight runs netted no yards and a turnover on downs near midfield. Windom quickly moved deep into Knight territory, but a pass on fourth-and-goal fell incomplete. On the next play, however, an LCWM pass attempt resulted in a holding penalty in the end zone, giving the Eagles a safety and an 8–0 lead.
Windom received the free kick and marched 67 yards in 11 plays, capped with a 5-yard run by Meyer. Rodrigo Hernandez kicked the extra point for a 15-0 lead.
But the tide began to turn on Windom’s first drive of the second half. The Knights forced the Eagles to go three-and-out. On the punt, the snap sailed over the head of Eagle punter Hayden Tietz, who scooped up the ball and tried to throw it away, but was flagged for intentional grounding. That gave the Knights the ball at the Eagle 3-yard line. On the next play, Jack Goeringer scored on a 3-yard run. The two-point conversion cut the Eagle lead to 15-8.
Windom answered back, as Jackson Joyce hit Tietz for a 65-yard touchdown strike down the middle of the field. The extra point gave Windom a 22-8 lead.
But LCWM quickly answered. A 71-yard run by Goehringer set up a 15-yard touchdown pass from Brody Herbst to Braxton Dudgeon, cutting the Eagle lead to 22-14.
After the Knights intercepted a pass on the next drive, LCWM cashed in on a 9-yard touchdown run by Dudgeon. The two-point pass tied the game at 22-22.
Windom was forced to punt early in the fourth quarter, with the Knights capitalizing. Dudgeon scored on a 26-yard run, giving the Knights a 28-26 lead with 6:39 left in the game.
The Eagles fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, with LCWM scoring two plays later on a 34-yard run by Dudgeon.
Meyer rushed 22 times for 74 yards in the loss. Joyce completed 12-of-20 passes for 156 yards. Tietz had four catches for 86 yards. Henry Visker had three catches for 44 yards.

Red Rock Central dominated early Friday, eventually claiming a 45-30 victory over Cedar Mountain at Morgan.
The Falcons rumbled their way to a 39-14 halftime lead. Injuries to an already-depleted Cougar squad resulted in the third quarter being shortened to five minutes and the fourth quarter being an eight-minute JV quarter.
The Falcons got the ground game going from the start, as Carter Therkilsen capped the opening drive with a 5-yard touchdown. Abe Stavnes ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
The Cougars answered with a touchdown pass, but RRC padded the lead to 14-6 with a 14-yard Carter Therkilsen touchdown run.
Early in the second quarter, Stavnes hit Jordan Therkilsen for a 43-yard touchdown run. Austin Imker’s extra point kick gave the Falcons a 21-6 lead.
Cedar Mountain answered with a short touchdown run, but injuries and turnovers mounted for the Cougars, allowing the Falcons to stretch the lead. Carter Therkilsen scored on runs on 21, 4 and 45 yards to give the Falcons a 39-14 halftime lead.
The Cougars scored a touchdown in the third quarter, with RRC sealing the win early in the fourth on a 2-yard touchdown run by Marshal Willhite.
Carter Therkilsen rushed 20 times for 244 yards. Stavnes rushed eight times for 152 yards and completed 4-of-6 passes for 49 yards. Jordan Therkilsen had two catches for 43 yards.

A physical Adrian-Ellsworth team capitalized on field position in the opening half Friday, cruising to a 45-6 victory over Mt. Lake Area at Adrian.
The Dragons raced to a 24-0 lead behind a 10-yard touchdown run by Charger Erlandson, a 41-yard scoring pass from Erlandson to Jackson Jenniges and a 52-yard punt return touchdown from Jenniges.
Erlandson added a pair of touchdown passes in the second, then punctuated a 45-0 halftime lead with a 14-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
MLA was able to get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard touchdown run from Tryton Khounsanthone.
Khounsanthone rushed 10 times for 36 yards in the loss. Jordan Khamkhaykeo had 14 carries for 31 yards.
Khounsanthone completed 1-of-4 passes for 43 yards. Khamkhaykeo went 2-of-4 passing for 19 yards. Carson Wall had two catches for 49 yards.
