Red Rock Central’s defense stood tall Friday night, holding Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda in check to allow the Falcons to claim a 12-7 victory at Lamberton.
The Falcons were able to turn aside a pair of fourth down conversion attempts in the second half and prevented the Coyotes from converting third down opportunities.
RRC’s offense got off to a strong start, as Carter Therkilsen scored on a 73-yard run on the game’s opening play. But the Falcons had two other possessions inside the HLOF 20-yard line in the opening quarter, failing to score either time.
RRC added a 62-yard touchdown pass from Abe Stavnes to Jordan Therkilsen in the second quarter, taking a 12-0 lead.
HLOF got on the board in the third quarter on a 34-yard touchdown run from Brenton Erdmann. But with six minutes to play, RRC forced the Coyotes to punt. The Falcons were able to convert three third down opportunities and did not allow HLOF to get the ball back.
Stavnes led the Falcons with 177 yards rushing on 15 carries. Carter Therkilsen had 170 yards on 28 carries. Stavnes completed 2-of-11 passes for 76 yards.

Mt. Lake Area struggled to sustain drives Friday night as Granada-Huntley-East Chain-Truman spoiled the Wolverine homecoming with a 50-0 decision at Mt. Lake.
The Jaguars hammered away at the Wolverine defense on the ground, rushing for 363 yards as a team.
Meanwhile, the GHECT defense kept the Wolverines from finding any continuity.
GHECT scored on the opening drive of the game on a 2-yard run by Keagan Berhow and a two-point conversion.
After the teams traded turnovers, GHECT scored early in the second on a 13-yard run by Bowan Sill for a 16-0 lead. The Jaguars added another 2-yard run from Berhow late in the half, taking a 24-0 lead into halftime.
After forcing a three-and-out on MLA’s first possession of the second half, GHECT struck quickly, with a 49-yard run by Sill for a 30-0 lead.
On MLA’s next offensive snap, GHECT’s Reagan Emmert intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown and a 38-0 lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Jaguars scored on a 54-yard punt return and added a 9-yard touchdown run late in the game.
Jordan Khamkhaykeo led the Wolverines with 62 yards rushing on 15 carries. Jason Wright added 46 yards on six carries.
Tryton Khounsanthone completed 3-of-10 passes for 12 yards. Wright had three catches for nine yards.
