Cottonwood County Commissioners have been poring through budget line items for weeks, with the goal of trying to keep the county’s anticipated levy increase as low as possible.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the board continued that discussion, while learning news that is likely to cause the preliminary levy to increase.
The board discussed proposed rates for health insurance for county employees. The proposal from Blue Cross Blue Shield has an average premium increase, across the board, of 29%.
Coupled with other county needs and projects, the consensus of the board was to try to keep the preliminary levy increase in the range of 7%.
A special meeting will be held Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. to further discuss the budget and to set the preliminary levy for the county.
