In less than a week, school buses will once again pick up students for their daily trip to Windom Area Schools.
Classes begin Tuesday for students in grades 5 through 12. Kindergarten through grade 4 students will start Thursday.
It appears school opens with a few less students this year. Windom’s projected enrollment is 1,115 students — 415 in elementary and 700 in middle and high school. The district reported 1,129 at the end of last school year. A year ago at this time, Windom started the year at 1,140 students.
Superintendent Jamie Frank, now in her third year leading the district, said she is excited to welcome students and staff back.
“Our goal is to continue implementing research-based reading strategies into all classrooms,” Frank said. “The elementary teachers have received comprehensive training in the science of reading. Special education, intervention, English learners and administration have also completed rigorous training. This is the year to integrate reading strategies into every lesson to develop vocabulary and support comprehension.”
