A proposal to purchase the city of Windom’s telecommunications company will get a closer look from an outside firm, after action at last week’s city council meeting.
The council approved hiring an outside firm to evaluate the offer from Federated Rural Electric and Broadband to purchase Windomnet. The outside firm will help the city evaluate market value of Windomnet and whether or not to accept Federated’s offer.
Federated first approached the council last November to inquire about Windomnet. In the meantime, Federated has begun the process of installing a fiber optic line in rural parts of Cottonwood County, after an agreement with the Cottonwood County board to potentially bring fiber broadband internet access to every home in the rural part of the county.
