The legalized sale of cannabis products in Cottonwood County is inching closer to reality.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners was asked to set license fees for cannabis-based retail businesses potentially opening in the county.
County Auditor/Treasurer Carolyn Rempel noted that registration applications from local entities are currently going through the state approval process and may soon come before the county board.
The board set the license fee for a cannabis retail location at $500 up front and a $500 annual renewal.
For lower potency hemp products, which are currently sold at several bars, liquor stores and gas stations in the county, the board set a fee of $125 up front and a $125 annual renewal. The board also requested clarification on the need for county registration if sale of low-potency products is already registered through the state.
