The Class C Amateur Baseball State Tournament begins this weekend.
For the Windom Pirates, the spoils of being the top-seeded team out of Region 10C are few.
Windom captured the Region 10C title over the weekend, sweeping the Milroy Irish 2-0 in a best-of-three championship series.
It marks the first time since 2009 the Pirates claimed the region’s top seed for the state tournament.
In past years, regional champions received a bye through the first weekend of the tournament. But with the realignment to a 32-team state tournament, all teams are in action on the opening weekend.
And the Pirates, despite taking a 23-1 record into the state tournament, figure to be in for a challenge against the Elrosa Saints.
Elrosa plays in the highly-competitive Stearns County League and brings a 15-11 overall record into the state tournament.
