A San Diego, California man was sentenced to 15 years in prison following his murder conviction stemming from a New Year’s Eve stabbing in Windom.
In June, No Name Given Happy was convicted of second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony, as well as one count of making terroristic threats. This stemmed from an incident on New Year’s Eve 2024 at the Phat Pheasant Pub, which resulted in the stabbing death of 30-year-old Benjamin Matter of Windom.
At Friday’s sentencing, several victim impact statements were given prior to the imposition of sentencing.
Judge Christina Wietzema denied defense motions for a dispositional departure and a durational departure of sentencing.
A minimum of two-thirds of the sentence will be served in prison, with a maximum of one-third served on supervised release.
Happy also was ordered to pay $11,922 in restitution and a $1,000 fine.
On the conviction of making terroristic threats, Happy was sentenced to 18 months in prison, to be served concurrently with the other sentence.
