A Windom man has been charged with second-degree murder following a shooting at a Windom residence early Wednesday morning.
According to the criminal complaint, at 5:19 a.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to an address on 12th Avenue in Windom on report of an assault with a firearm. The reporting party stated that 38-year-old Jamie Voelker had shot the victim, a 70-year-old female, with a small-caliber handgun. The victim, who was identified as Kathryn Voelker of Windom, was later transported to Windom Area Health, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
The officers were then dispatched to a residence on River Road, where a caller stated a man had broken into her house and believed he was in the downstairs bathroom. The officers made contact with Voelker, who was in the bathtub. Voelker was transported to Windom Area Health for injuries before being transported to the Cottonwood County jail.
The preliminary autopsy report stated the victim had seven gunshot wounds, with the cause of death listed as loss of blood due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Jamie Voelker is charged with second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated, as well as second-degree murder without intent, while committing a felony.
