Two rough innings ultimately doomed Windom Sr. Legion Post 206 Thursday, as the team dropped a 9-5 decision to Adrian in the Southwest Sub-Sub-State A Pod playoffs at Island Park.
Adrian took the lead with a four-run fourth inning. After Windom battled back to tie the game, Adrian scored five times in the top of the sixth, taking the lead for good.
Windom got on the board in the bottom of the first when Soren Nielsen scored on a wild pitch. The throw to try to retire Nielsen at the plate went off-line, allowing Jackson Joyce to score from second on the same play for a 2-0 Windom lead.
Adrian took the lead in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk and a three-run double.
Windom battled back in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game on another hustle play. Joyce beat the relay to first on a potential double-play ball, driving in Ben Ludewig. However, on the play, baserunner Matt Redman raced around third all the way home, tying the game at 4-4.
But Adrian regained the lead with a five-run top of the sixth with a pair of RBI singles, a run-scoring groundout and a two-run double.
Windom was able to close to within 9-5 when Stevie Meyer scored on an error, but Post 206 was unable to get any closer.
Nielsen had two hits in the loss for Windom.
Joe Walinga took the pitching loss, working the final two innings in relief.
With the loss, Windom will play again at 7 p.m. tonight in an elimination game.
