A Sioux City, Iowa woman faces a fifth-degree felony possession of controlled substance charge.
According to court documents, Angel Meleah Boyd, 29 faces fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and driving while impaired under the influence of a controlled substance stemming from an incident on June 17.
The complaint says Boyd was found in possession of 1.6 grams of cocaine. If convicted, the charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The statement said a Windom police officer responded to a report of suspicious activity at a Speedway gas station in Windom. Boyd was found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, appearing frantic and with constricted pupils, which are potential signs of narcotics use.
The complaint said Boyd had been in the gas station bathroom for about an hour and employees reported hearing banging sounds and loud talking. Boyd was subjected to standardized field sobriety testing, which indicated impairment, leading to her arrest. A subsequent search at the hospital revealed a baggie of cocaine concealed on Boyd’s person. The substance tested positive for cocaine, confirming the possession charge.
