Bridge by WCC set for summer replacement

Replacement of the County Road 15 bridge by the Windom Country Club is now on the fast track.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners reviewed bids for the bridge replacement, which was accelerated due to deterioration of the bridge.

Highway Engineer Nick Klisch said that the deterioration justified the bridge be replaced as soon as possible, and that rehabilitation options were explored but deemed not feasible.

Klisch added that the project has received state bridge bond funding, which will cover roughly $700,000 of the cost.

The low bid of $1,724,480 for the project was received from ICON Constructors, which is located in Mabel. That bid was approved by the board.

Originally, it was anticipated the bridge replacement would take place in 2026. However, Klisch said the deterioration warrants acting now to replace the bridge.

More from Tuesday’s meeting appears in the July 2 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
