Joshua Joseph Ring, 31, of Mt. Lake has been charged in Cottonwood County Court with two counts of possession of firearms or ammunition after having been convicted of or adjudicated delinquent of a crime of violence.
According to the criminal complaint, a deputy was informed of a potential suicidal male driving on County Road 2. The driver, Ring, told dispatch he had two firearms in the vehicle with him but had no ammo. Dispatch was able to talk Ring into pulling over at a township building on County Road 2 and Highway 30.
When the deputy arrived, Ring stated he was upset about not getting assistance from county social services regarding custody of his kids. He told the officer there were rifles behind the back seat of the vehicle.
Ring had previously been convicted of third-degree assault and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
If convicted, each charge carries a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 60 months in prison.
