One rough inning doomed the Windom Pirates Wednesday, as the Class B Fairmont Martins claimed a 5-2 win at Island Park.
It was the Pirates’ first loss of the season.
Fairmont strung together a four-run second inning and never let the Pirates find a firm offensive footing in the game.
Windom scored its only runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run single from David Volk.
Drew Rothenberger had two hits in the loss for the Pirates.
Luke Gilbertson took the pitching loss, working the first six innings. He allowed 10 hits, walked two and struck out four.
