Despite missing a handful of players due to the Windom high school baseball game, the Windom Pirates were able to improve to 5-0 on the season Wednesday with a convincing 8-0 victory over the Hadley Buttermakers at Island Park.
Pirate pitcher Ross Ackerman held Hadley in check for eight innings, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out three.
Meanwhile, the makeshift Pirate lineup broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning, then erupted in the seventh.
In the sixth, Jake Tauer launched an RBI double and scored when Luke Gilbertson reached on an error, giving Windom a 2-0 lead.
The Pirates padded the lead in the seventh. Tauer belted a two-run triple, then scored on an errant throw. Keenan Wenzel and Drew Rothenberger followed with RBI doubles and Brett Willaby added an RBI single.
Tauer, Alex Borsgard, Rothenberger, Willaby and Josh Garrison each had two hits for the Pirates in the win.
