Section 2A Meet
Windom and Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey each will send two individuals to the Class A State Track and Field Meet, while Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin has one state qualifier.
The athletes advanced from the Section 2A Meet, held Saturday at Mankato West High School.
The top two finishers in each event qualify for state, as well as any performers who surpass the state’s qualifying standard, which is the average fifth-place state finish from the past five years.
Windom
Windom was led by dual-event state qualifier Job Ogeka. Ogeka captured first place in the boys triple jump, setting a new Windom school record with a leap of 45-4. That breaks the previous record of 45-1, set by Dylan Serreyn. Ogeka had surpassed the state qualifying standard on his first jump of the day, then broke the school record on his first jump of finals.
The Eagles also took the top two places in the boys long jump. Kevin Bleess captured first place, leaping 21-5. Ogeka was second, leaping 21-2½. Each surpassed the state’s qualifying standard on their first jump of the competition.
The 4×400 relay team of Ogeka, Bryce Green, Braylen Lyons and Bleess finished fourth (3:36.81). The 4×800 relay team of Green, Caelen Ralston, Isaac Bordewyk and Lyons also placed fourth (8:30.85). Elliot Serreyn placed fourth in the high jump (5-10). Lyons placed fourth in the open 800 (2:05.96). Trent Rothenberger was seventh in the shot put (44-7½). Green placed eighth in the 1,600 (4:57.90).
The Eagle girls were led by Lilly Meyer, who placed fifth in the discus (107-0). Theora Ahnupkana was seventh in the discus (102-5). The 4×400 relay team of Haidyn Sammons, Gretta Smith, Kenzi Meyeraan and Macie Carlson was eighth (4:47.02).
MLAC
MLAC’s boys were led by a runner-up finish from Ethan Schroeder in the 800 (2:02.29), qualifying for the state meet.
Cameron Meyer placed fifth in the high jump (5-10). Cooper Evers was eighth in the 800 (2:07.41).
For the Wolverine girls, Gracie Peters placed third in the 400 (1:00.22), but surpassed the state qualifying standard to advance to the state meet. She also broke the Wolverine school record with her performance.
Katie Johnson added a sixth-place finish in the 1,600 (5:38.75).
MCWBO
MCWBO has one state meet qualifier.
Berent Kosbab advanced to state with a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash (11.25). He also finished fourth in the 200 (22.97).
The 4×200 relay team of Lixon Forsberg, Kale Larson, Lucas Larson and Kosbab placed fourth (1:35.21). Barret Scholl placed fifth in the shot put (45-3).
The top finisher for the Maverick girls was Evelynn Christenson, who placed ninth in the 1,600 (5:43.90).
Section 3A Meet
Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central did not have any state qualifiers from the Section 3A Meet, held Thursday at Redwood Falls.
The top two finishers in each event qualify for state, as well as any performers who surpass the state’s qualifying standard, which is the average fifth-place state finish from the past five years.
The Charger boys had the team’s top finish at sections. Junior Bowen Hesse finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.41).
Adrian Yang added a seventh-place finish in the pole vault (10-2) while Ben Yang was eighth in the pole vault (10-2).
The Charger girls had ninth-place finishes from Miranda Mischke in the 1,600 (5:55.38) and Evelyn Rentschler in the pole vault (7-8).
