The Windom Eagle softball team saw its playoff run come to an end Wednesday, as the Eagles dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Dassel-Cokato in the elimination bracket of the Section 3AA Tournament, played at Marshall.
Wednesday was the resumption of Tuesday’s originally-scheduled game, which was suspended in the top of the third inning due to rain.
Missed opportunities were the story for the Eagles, as Windom left 10 runners on base in the game. That included leaving the bases loaded in the second inning Tuesday in the rain. The Eagles then loaded the bases again in the third. The game was suspended with the bases loaded and two outs.
Dassel-Cokato got a strikeout to end the third-inning threat.
The Eagles then had two runners in scoring position in the fifth inning and two more runners in the seventh, but Charger pitcher Aubrey Quern recorded 16 strikeouts in the game.
The game’s only run came in the bottom of the first inning, when Emily Vacek hit a solo home run.
Elliot O’Donnell and Brita Tjentland had the lone hits in the game for the Eagles.
Anja Nielsen took the tough pitching loss, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out seven.
