The Windom Eagle softball team saved its best for last Saturday, keeping its season alive with two late-inning victories in the Section 3AA Tournament at Marshall.
In Saturday’s opener against New London-Spicer, the Eagles did not have a baserunner until the bottom of the sixth inning. Gracie Buckentin hit a one-out single and stole second and third. Elliot O’Donnell drew a two-out walk and stole second. Charlee Huska then hit a sharp grounder that caromed off the glove of the Wildcat pitcher, allowing Huska to drive in the game’s only run with an infield single.
Anja Nielsen scattered three hits without a walk and struck out six in the win.
In the nightcap, Pipestone jumped to a lead with three runs in the first and two more in the second, but the Eagles slammed the door on the Arrows after that, not allowing a runner past second base the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, the Eagle offense roared to life in the bottom of the sixth. O’Donnell led off the inning reaching on catcher’s interference. Huska walked and Nielsen followed with an RBI single. Brita Tjentland singled. Addison Evans drew a bases-loaded walk, cutting the deficit to 5-2.
Alivia Letcher followed with a two-run single and Reagan Haugen hit an RBI single, tying the game at 5-5.
Buckentin then delivered a two-run single and Huska added an RBI single, capping an eight-run sixth inning.
Nielsen allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out five in the win.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t shake off an early deficit Saturday, dropping a 6-3 decision to Nicollet in the Section 2A Tournament at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
The Raiders took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first, then tacked on four runs in the third on a two-run home run, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
The Wolverines battled to within 5-3 in the top of the fourth. Ashlyn Pfeiffer plated a run with a groundout and Nadia Phommachan ripped a two-run single.
But the Raiders added an insurance run in the fifth on a solo home run.
Pfeiffer took the pitching loss, allowing six hits and striking out four.
