The Windom Eagle softball team was able to do something it hadn’t done since 1999 Tuesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader and the season series from Pipestone at the Windom Recreation Area.
The Eagles rallied to win the opener 3-2, then claimed the nightcap 7-2.
In the opener, Pipestone jumped to an early lead with single runs in the first and third innings.
The Arrows kept a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh inning, when the bottom of the Eagles’ order came up big. Alivia Letcher led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Reagan Haugen walked and stole second, and Gracie Buckentin walked, loading the bases with no outs.
Ember Struck then rifled a two-run single to right field, tying the game. Leadoff hitter Elliot O’Donnell then shot a single to right field, plating the game-winning run in walk-off fashion.
Anja Nielsen scattered five hits and a walk while fanning six to earn the pitching win.
In the nightcap, the Eagles were in control from the early innings. Brita Tjentland gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single.
After Pipestone tied the game in the bottom of the inning, Nielsen hit a two-run single in the second, giving the Eagles the lead for good at 3-1.
In the fourth, Tjentland ripped a two-run triple and scored on a passed ball for a 6-1 lead. Haugen plated the final Eagle run in the fifth, scoring on a throw following a dropped third strike.
Tjentland had three hits to lead the Eagles. Nielsen and Charlee Huska had two hits each.
Nielsen allowed 10 hits and a walk while fanning four to pick up the pitching victory.

Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda made a stunning seventh-inning rally Tuesday, claiming a walk-off 10-9 win over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Okabena.
The Falcons struck first, scoring on a Leah Carter RBI double in the top of the first.
Trailing 2-1 in the third, the Falcons regained the lead. Natalie Wahl hit an RBI double and Carter followed with an RBI single.
The Falcons seemingly took control of the game in the fifth, plating five runs. Kennedy Carter hit a two-run double, Kendra Schroeder hit an RBI single and Natasha Wahl hit a two-run single, giving the Falcons an 8-3 lead.
Leah Carter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh, giving the Falcons a 9-4 lead.
But in the bottom of the seventh, HLOF got a pair of RBI singles and scored on an error, cutting the deficit to 9-8.
A wild pitch plated the tying run and a single brought in the game-winning run for the Coyotes.
Natasha Wahl had three hits in the loss. Leah Carter added two hits.
Carlie Ross took the pitching loss, allowing 10 hits and four walks while striking out seven.

Murray County Central battled back from a rough start Tuesday, winning an 18-12 slugfest over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey at Mt. Lake.
MLAC seemed to take command of the game early, plating 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ella Dockter and Ellamae Peters had RBI singles and Ashlyn Pfeiffer hit a two-run double in the inning. MLAC also scored on a bases-loaded walk and three MCC errors.
MCC battled back, scoring four times in the second. After MLAC scored on an error in the second, MCC tied the game at 11-11 in the top of the third with six runs.
The Wolverines regained the lead at 12-11 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Dockter, but MCC scored twice in each of the next three innings. Meanwhile, MLAC’s offense bogged down after the third, failing to score the rest of the way.
Julia Brinkman had three hits in the loss. Peters, Pfeiffer and Dockter had two hits each.
Pfeiffer took the pitching loss for the Wolverines, working the first three innings inside the circle.
