Major traffic accidents at two rural intersections in Cottonwood County have caught the attention of MnDOT.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners approved a letter of support for MnDOT to look at the possibility of constructing roundabouts at the two intersections.
County Highway Engineer Nick Klisch noted that the number of accidents at the intersection of Highway 62 and County Road 5, as well as the intersection of Highways 30 and 71, caused MnDOT to put the intersection on a list of potential safety enhancement projects.
“A potential roundabout at the intersection of Highway 62 and County Road 5 would be a 50/50 split between MnDOT and the county,” Klisch said. “The Highway 30/71 intersection would fall entirely on MnDOT because those are both state highways.”
