A long day of softball resulted in a doubleheader split for the Windom Eagle softball team Tuesday, as the Eagles split a pair with Redwood Valley at the Windom Recreation Area.
Redwood Valley won the opening game 4-3 in 11 innings. The Eagles bounced back, taking the nightcap 16-3 in five innings.
In the opener, the Eagles jumped to an early lead. Charlee Huska hit a two-run double in the third inning for a 2-0 lead.
Redwood rallied, scoring three times in the top of the sixth to take the lead, but the Eagles tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the inning on an Addison Evans RBI single.
The game stayed tied until the top of the 11th, when the Cardinals scored the go-ahead run on a fielding error.
Evans and Elliot O’Donnell each had two hits in the loss for the Eagles.
Anja Nielsen took the complete-game pitching loss, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out 15.
In the nightcap, the Eagle offense atoned for the earlier loss, slugging out 12 hits in a 16-3 win.
The Eagles took a lead with five runs in the top of the second. Evans hit an RBI double, Huska hit an RBI single with a run scoring on an error and Nielsen belted a two-run home run.
In the third, the Eagles stretched the lead as O’Donnell ripped a bases-clearing double for an 8-0 lead.
Windom tacked on seven runs in the fourth. Reagan Haugen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, O’Donnell drew a bases-loaded walk, Huska hit a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Nielsen and Leah Smith followed with two-run singles.
Windom’s final run scored on an O’Donnell RBI single in the fifth.
Nielsen had three hits in the win. O’Donnell had two hits and five RBI, while Brita Tjentland and Evans had two hits each.
Smith earned her first varsity pitching win, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove couldn’t generate any offense Tuesday, dropping a 14-0 decision to Edgerton/Southwest Christian in Walnut Grove.
The Dutchmen jumped to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first. ESWC added two in the third, three in the fifth and five runs in the seventh inning.
Meanwhile, the Falcon hitters were stymied at the plate, with just three hits and 16 strikeouts.
Carlie Ross took the pitching loss for the Falcons, allowing 14 hits and eight walks while fanning four.
