It was a milestone afternoon for the Windom Eagle softball team, as Windom picked up its second straight victory, defeating Marshall 11-1 at the Windom Recreation Area.
With a strikeout of the first batter of the game, Eagle pitcher Anja Nielsen was recognized for recording the 500th strikeout of her high school pitching career. Nielsen finished the game with five strikeouts and one walk while allowing just four hits.
The Eagle offense roared to life in the bottom of the third. Reagan Haugen scored on a wild pitch. Nielsen then laced a two-run double for a 3-0 lead. Grace Buckentin followed with a bases-clearing double and Elliot O’Donnell added a two-run double for an 8-0 Windom lead.
Addison Evans added a two-run double in the fourth inning, pushing the lead to 10-0.
Marshall got a run in the top of the fifth, but the Eagles claimed the walk-off win when Madison Burton scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth, after leading off the inning with a single.
O’Donnell had three hits in the win. Nielsen and Brita Tjentland added two hits each.
