The Windom Eagle baseball team couldn’t shake off a rough start Thursday afternoon, dropping a 5-3 decision at Fairmont.
Windom got on the board in the top of the first inning on a Stevie Meyer RBI double. But Fairmont answered in the bottom of the inning, plating four runs to take the lead for good.
Fairmont added a run in the bottom of the third.
Windom tried to mount a late rally, scoring a pair of runs on an error in the top of the seventh. But the Eagles led the potential tying runs on base to end the game.
Jackson Joyce took the pitching loss, working the first five innings. He allowed eight hits and struck out three in the loss.

Adrian-Ellsworth jumped to an early lead and put things away late Thursday, powering past Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey for an 18-4 victory at Mt. Lake.
The Dragons took an early lead with five runs in the top of the first inning. AE scored in five of its six trips to the plate in the game, tacking on nine runs in the top of the sixth to seal the win.
MLAC got on the board in the bottom of the first on a two-run Heber Morales single. In the third, Morales added another RBI single.
MLAC scored its final run on a Ram Vasquez sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Morales and Cooper Wenner each had two hits in the loss.
Landon Simon took the pitching loss, allowing nine runs on 12 hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out three.
