Prescribed burns along Highway 60 are today

Motorists traveling on Highway 60 between Windom and Mt. Lake today should be aware of a planned prescribed burn.

Motorists should expect lane closures and will encounter signs due to smoke as they approach the burn area. Motorists should be attentive, slow down and watch for the burn crew as they travel through the area. They also should note that there is no need to contact the fire department for a prescribed burn.

MnDOT performs prescribed burns of grassland vegetation along many roadsides, which provides optimal vegetation health, which can create safer clear zones, stabilize soil and treat storm runoff. Fire also promotes the growth of taller native grasses, which help trap blowing snow to prevent drifting.
