The Windom Eagle baseball team had a tough afternoon in the field Tuesday, committing seven errors as St. James claimed a doubleheader sweep over the Eagles at St. James.
The Saints won the opener 12-1 in five innings, then rallied to win the nightcap 11-8.
In the opener, St. James scored in each of its trips to the plate, hammering out 11 hits against Eagle pitchers. The Saints also capitalized on five Eagle errors, resulting in eight unearned runs.
Windom’s lone run of the game came on a second-inning RBI single from Jackson Anderson.
Jackson Joyce took the pitching loss, working the first three innings.
In the nightcap, the Eagles saw an 8-4 lead slip away, as St. James scored the game’s final seven runs over the last three innings.
The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first on a Stevie Meyer RBI double.
In the second, Anderson plated a run with a bunt single and Quintin Tietz hit a three-run home run, giving the Eagles a 5-2 lead.
Windom stretched the lead to 8-4 in the fourth. Joyce hit an RBI single, Hayden Tietz plated a run with a squeeze bunt and Matthew Voehl added another squeeze bunt for an 8-4 lead.
But the Saints tied the game with a four-run fifth inning, then scored three runs in the seventh to claim the win.
Quintin Tietz had three hits in the loss. Joyce, Anderson and Joe Walinga had two hits each.
Voehl took the pitching loss, working 1-⅔ innings in relief.
