The Windom Eagle softball team got the 2025 season off to a strong start Thursday, sweeping a Big South Conference doubleheader against Blue Earth Area in Blue Earth.
The Eagles won the opener 15-0 in four innings, then won the nightcap 16-4 in five innings.
In the opener, junior pitcher Anja Nielsen tossed a four-inning no-hitter. She issued one walk and struck out nine.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard on a two-run Addisyn Powers single in the top of the first.
In the second, Elliot O’Donnell and Nielsen hit RBI singles, pushing the lead to 4-0.
The Eagles doubled their lead in the third. O’Donnell hit an RBI single, Charlee Huska hit a two-run single and Nielsen hit an RBI double.
In the fourth, Reagan Haugen drew a bases-loaded walk, O’Donnell hit an RBI single, with two runs scoring on an error, Nielsen hit a two-run single and Windom’s final run scored on an error.
Nielsen finished with three hits and four RBI in the win. O’Donnell added three hits and three RBI. Huska, Brita Tjentland and Alivia Letcher each added two hits.
In the nightcap, the Eagles smashed out 18 hits, including seven extra-base hits.
BEA scored in the top of the first, but the Eagles quickly tied the game on an O’Donnell RBI single.
In the second, Grace Buckentin hit an RBI double and scored on an error. Nielsen drew a bases-loaded walk and Powers hit an RBI single.
The Eagles then put the game away with an 11-run fourth inning. Buckenting hit a bases-clearing double. Ember Struck and Letcher followed with back-to-back RBI doubles and Haugen added an RBI single. Addison Evans and Tjentland hit RBI doubles and Struck added a two-run single.
Buckentin had three hits and four RBI. Struck added three hits and three RBI in the win, while O’Donnell, Powers and Tjentland had two hits each.
Nielsen worked the first three innings to pick up the pitching win, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove opened its season in thrilling fashion Friday, claiming a walk-off 3-2 victory over Renville County West at Lower Plum Creek Park near Walnut Grove.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Falcons tied the game when Natasha Wahl scored on the back end of a double steal.
The Falcons took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI double from Natalie Wahl.
After RCW tied the game in the top of the sixth, the Falcons claimed the win in the seventh. Kennedi Carter led off with a single, Camryn Therkilsen drew a walk and Natasha Wahl plated the game-winning run on a single.
Natasha Wahl had four hits for the Falcons in the win.
Carlie Ross picked up the complete-game pitching win, scattering five hits. She walked five and struck out eight.
