The Windom Eagle baseball team was sharp in all phases of the game Thursday, as the Eagles opened the 2025 season with an 11-1 victory over Jackson County Central at the Windom Recreation Area.
The Eagle offense was crisp up and down the lineup, with 11 hits. The Eagles also stole nine bases.
On the mound, the Eagles held JCC to just two hits and two walks in the game. Defensively, the Eagles played without an error and turned a pair of double plays.
JCC got on the board in the top of the first, using a walk, a wild pitch, a stolen base and an RBI double to take the early lead.
The Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning. Miscommunication in the outfield allowed Quintin Tietz to reach with a double. He then stole third and scored on a Hayden Tietz groundout.
In the second, Charles Erickson and Nick Walinga hit back-to-back singles. Jackson Anderson plated a run by reaching on an error. Quintin Tietz hit an RBI single and Hayden Tietz plated a run with a sacrifice fly, giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
Windom stretched the lead in the third. Joe Walinga hit an RBI single and eventually scored on a squeeze bunt from Anderson, who reached on an error. Anderson and Quintin Tietz scored on wild pitches and Jackson Joyce scored from second base on an infield single from Hayden Tietz.
The Eagles ended the game in the fifth. Pinch hitter Marshall Bartelt lofted a double to the right-center gap. Quintin Tietz then launched a ball to the left-center gap and circled the bases before the ball could be relayed for a two-run, inside-the-park home run to end the game.
Quintin Tietz led the Eagles with three hits and three RBI. Hayden Tietz knocked in three runs, while Nick Walinga had a pair of hits.
Erickson earned the pitching win, working the first four innings. He allowed one run on two hits, walked one and struck out six.
