A bridge in the southern portion of Cottonwood County may be in need of replacement soon.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners took action to ensure the county is ready to seek funds to potentially replace the structure on County Road 5, just north of the Jackson County line.
Highway Engineer Nick Klisch told the board that the bridge was inspected following last summer’s flooding, which showed that timber substructure elements were deteriorating. There was concern from the public that the bridge wasn’t adequately-sized to handle the water flow.
Additionally, Klisch said that the road sees significant semi truck traffic. Being able to handle larger load weights is crucial.
