Motorists driving on Highway 60 today will notice a controlled burn near the intersection of Highway 60 and Jackson County Road 9 near Heron Lake.
Signs will warn of possible smoke as motorists approach the burn area. Motorists should slow down, be attentive and watch for the burn crew.
MnDOT noted that prescribed burns are done along many roads statewide to provide optimal vegetation health, which helps provide safer clear zones and stabilizes soil and runoff. Burns also promote the growth of native grasses, which can help trap blowing snow to prevent it from drifting over roads.
