Cottonwood County has a new county recorder, but the new recorder is a familiar face to people who have come into the recorder’s office over the years.
Longtime deputy recorder Susan Horkey took the oath of office on Feb. 28 and officially began her duties as county recorder on March 1.
She assumes the position following the retirement of longtime county recorder Kathy Kretsch.
It marked the third time in the past 15 months that a major county elected office saw a new person appointed to the position following a resignation or retirement. Early in 2024, the county saw a new auditor/treasurer and a new county attorney appointed.
