Fairmont’s inside dominance and hot outside shooting proved to be a potent combo as the Cardinals defeated the Windom boys basketball team 82-62 in the Section 3AA playoffs at Fairmont.
The Eagles started the game strong, racing to a 17-9 lead in the opening minutes. But Fairmont ended the half with a 30-14 run, taking an eight-point halftime lead.
The Cardinals pounded the ball inside to open the second half, then sealed the game with a pair of three-pointers and a dunk.
Fairmont’s interior dominance led to a 48-28 edge in points in the paint. The Cardinals also shot 49% from the field as a team, including 31% from three-point range.
Quintin Tietz led the Eagles with 27 points in the loss. Job Ogeka finished with 16 points.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey used a strong scoring burst in the opening half to set the tone Friday night, leading to a 76-53 win over Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain in the Section 2A Playoffs at Truman.
The Wolverines used a 19-6 run early in the game to take a 21-9 lead. MLAC was able to lead by double-digits much of the rest of the game, leading by 13 at halftime and eventually pushing the lead to 26 early in the second half.
The Wolverines were able to make the lead hold up by attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line, where MLAC was 21-of-30 for the game, compared to 8-of-12 for the Jaguars.
Five Wolverines scored in double figures in the game, led by Maxton Fast with 17 points. Aidan Olson added 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Jake Evers scored 15 points, Tanner Schultz had 13 and Landon Strom scored 12.
