Section 3AA
The Windom-Mt. Lake Area wrestling team won its opening bout in the Section 3AA team tournament Thursday before falling to the south’s top-seeded team, ending the dual meet season in New Ulm.
The Cobras opened the tournament with a 56-18 victory over Luverne. The Cobras recorded falls from Jacob Lopez (114), Hyatt Hansen (127), Dagen Hansen (133) and Damian Aguirre (172). Kameron Koerner (145) won by technical fall and Damien Davison (160) won by decision. The Cobras also had four forfeit victories.
That moved the Cobras to the section quarterfinals, where the team ran into a solid New Ulm squad, with New Ulm claiming a dominant 67-3 victory.
New Ulm won nine pinfalls and two technical falls on its way to the win. New Ulm added one decision victory.
The lone Cobra victory in the match was a 7-3 decision win for Kameron Koerner at 145 pounds.
Section 3A
The Red Rock Central wrestling team had its dual meet season end Thursday with a 64-12 loss to St. James-Madelia at Jackson.
SJM recorded three falls and one major decision. SJM also won seven weights by forfeit.
RRC’s lone victories were falls from Braxton Weber (107) and Jonah Skarupa (172).
